All The Witcher 1 & 2 Decisions That Affect The Story of The Witcher 3 Remastered
Importing your save file (or enabling save simulation) isn't just background flavor text. Choices made in The Witcher 1 and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings alter characters, unlock side quests, and change key interactions across the Northern Realms.
To spot every callback as you play, here is every major imported choice in the exact order you encounter it in
1. The Shaving Interrogation (Royal Palace in Vizima)
When: Immediately after finishing the White Orchard prologue.
Before meeting Emperor Emhyr, General Morvran Voorhis interrogates Geralt while a barber shaves him. If "Save Simulation" is turned on when you start the game, your answers lock in the world state.
Aryan La Valette: Did you fight or convince him to surrender him during the castle assault?
Roche vs. Iorveth: Did you join Vernon Roche's Temerian Special Forces or Iorveth's Scoia'tael rebels?
Loc Muinne: Did you save Triss Merigold, or prioritize rescuing Anais La Valette / lifting Saskia's spell?
SĂle de Tansarville: Did you save SĂle from her sabotaged megascope or let her disintegrate?
Letho of Gulet: Did you duel and kill the Viper witcher, or let him walk away?
2. Reardon Manor (Velen)
When: Early game side quest in Lindenvale.
Decision Checked: Letho of Gulet (Alive vs. Dead)
The Impact: If Letho survived The Witcher 2, the monster-hunting contract "Fall of the House of Reardon" turns into a trap-laced estate defense. Clearing the traps triggers the exclusive quest "Ghosts of the Past", reuniting Geralt with Letho. If Letho died in the previous game, the manor is simply infested with wraiths.
3. The La Valette Estate (Novigrad)
When: Mid-game main quest "Broken Flowers".
Decision Checked: Aryan La Valette (Alive vs. Dead)
The Impact: When Geralt visits Baroness Louisa La Valette alongside General Voorhis, her reaction hinges entirely on her son's fate. If Aryan survived, she greets Geralt pleasantly and invites him to the Vegelbud horse races. If Geralt killed Aryan, she curses him out as a murderer and storms inside, cutting the interaction short.
4. Temerian Partisan Camp (Velen / Novigrad)
When: Mid-game during "An Eye for an Eye" and "Brothers in Arms".
Decision Checked: Roche Path vs. Iorveth Path
The Impact: Siding with Vernon Roche in The Witcher 2 earns Geralt an immediate, warm welcome at the Temerian hideout. Siding with Iorveth makes Roche guarded and suspicious, requiring Geralt to talk his way past the camp guards.
5. The Cobbler's Wagon (Novigrad)
When: Mid-to-late game side quest "A Deadly Plot".
Decision Checked: Thaler's Survival (The Witcher 1)
The Impact: If spy master Thaler survived the events of the original game, he returns disguised as a shoe cobbler in a roadside wagon. He becomes a central figure in the conspiracy plot to assassinate King Radovid.
6. Oxenfurt Prison (Oxenfurt)
When: Late-game main quest "The Great Escape".
Decision Checked: SĂle de Tansarville (Alive vs. Dead)
The Impact: If SĂle was saved from the exploding megascope, Geralt and Yennefer find her severely tortured in an Oxenfurt cell alongside Margarita Laux-Antille. Geralt or Yennefer grants her a merciful death before escaping. If she died in The Witcher 2, Margarita is the only sorceress present.
7. The Defense of Kaer Morhen (Kaer Morhen)
When: Climax of Act II.
Decision Checked: Letho of Gulet (Recruitment)
The Impact: If you spared Letho and completed "Ghosts of the Past", you can invite him to Kaer Morhen. He stands on the battlements alongside Geralt, Yennefer, and Lambert, offering extra firepower and unique battle dialogue against the Wild Hunt.
8. Fallen Order Outposts (North-East Velen)
When: Hearts of Stone Expansion.
Decision Checked: Order of the Flaming Rose Alignment (The Witcher 1)
The Impact: Encountering fallen knights of the Flaming Rose in the countryside triggers unique dialogue choices reflecting whether Geralt allied with the Order, backed the Scoia'tael, or remained neutral in the Vizima uprising.
