Legendary animals come to Red Dead Online with the Naturalist role and can be acquired through missions or exploration. The legendary animal's sample can be sold to Harriet or to Gus in exchange for the new animal-themed clothing known as garment sets.
How do you hunt for legendary animals?
- You need to reach level 5 under the Naturalist role.
- Go to Harriet and start the mission
- Complete the task for Harriet or deliver the pelt/hide to Gus

Naturalist missions for legendary animals can be repeated but it has a cooldown, repeat the mission, instead of sedating the legendary animal, kill it and skin them for the pelt/hide thus completing the field guide in the category of the animal.
- You need to buy the Naturalist role from Harriet Davenport
- Get the legendary animal mission from Harriet (see her locations on the map)
- Instead of sedating the animal, kill it and acquire the skin/pelt/hide
- After the mission is over, sell the legendary items acquired to Gus
- Buy the garment set from Gus inventory and that's it.

- If the legendary animal is a social animal like the Sun gator or Katala Elk you will notice the large concentration of same animal in the area. They are extra aggressive and will attack you on sight.

- Use your binoculars or advance camera to study and track the unknown legendary animal
- When identified hunt the legendary animal and skin it for the pelt and unlock the coat garment set.
