The Wonder Woman Concept
Its creator William M. Marston is an inventor of early polygraph machine and a psychologist studying behavioral patterns particularly women's psyche. According to his essay "Emotions of Normal People" masculinity has anarchic and violent tendencies while femininity leads through a state of submission and loving authority. Even today this is feasibly true, male leaders often go to war to resolve conflicts compared to most women whose notion of violence is at the bottom of the list. Like we all know female species are engineered to bear life, hence we often refer to Nature and Earth as "mother". And the male species are usually synonymous to force from ancient hunters to modern builders.

William Moulton Marston, H. G. Peter, Sheldon Mayer, Max Gaines |
William Moulton Marston also known as Charles Moulton, was hired by National Periodicals and All-American Publications (later merged and became DC Comics) to create a superhero that would conquer their foes with brute force and love. For an era dominated by machismo, the 1940's comics introduced another powerful character, with strength rivaling the most physical heroes but this one radiates with beauty, a woman. On its early issues on All Star Comics, Wonder Woman was sidelined as the secretary in the superhero team Justice Society of America. Expected during that era, Wonder Woman the dominant leader is the extreme opposite of the existing idea of women perceived during that period who are usually housewives, mothers, nurses, minor roles in the offices and whose voting rights were granted just 20 years ago.

brace for my bracelets |
Marston created a fictional hero with qualities that he percieved the most likely to conquer and lead according to his study in psychological human behaviors. A leader of favorable solution rather than an antagonistic reign of violence. Aside from Marston's study, the presence of two important women on his life, Marston's wife Elizabeth and partner Olive Byrne contributed to Wonder Woman. The two women lived together with Marston with their kids. His wife Elizabeth was the one who suggested to create a female superhero while Olive's bracelets made it as Wonder Woman's defining feature. Then we can tie Wonder Woman's lasso of truth influence from Marston's invention "systolic blood pressure test" which later became the lie detecting polygraph machine.

Wonder Erotica
Wonder Woman and her amazon sisters have a recurring theme presenting dominant females tying down male opponents with lasso and whips, which became one of the early influence to eroticism. The dominant and submission pairings had an impact to bondage as a form of sexuality. The Amazon's Paradise Island can also refer both to women political powerplay among women as peers and as reformation camp through punishments and retribution.
