What the hell happen? The name says it all, but let's dig in deeper to this supposed summer blockbuster.

what is suicidal about an alien antagonist |
Villains got heroic
At a glance the film reflects how Warner Bros. & DC tried to change the theme due to the panned reviews of theatrical release of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The re-shoots are evident that contributed heavily on toning down its seriousness but resulted into awful one liners. There is nothing exciting on the Suicide Squad backstory, its too short and the presented in abrupt character developments.

Alien fodders assemble |
There are so many story arcs in DC canon that could have been explored, the flashbacks became a repetitive cinematic annoyance. The character's prowess was swapped with human factors which we don't care. These are super villains, that is what made them interesting, without villainous deeds it is hard to see them as anti-hero. The film could have shown us why they are incarcerated, or how they got captured by the Justice League.

Death comes in all shapes and colors |
El Diablo and Deadshot deals with family cliches, Enchantress/Rick Flag and Joker/Harley Quinn needed couple's therapy, Boomerang had Heath Ledger's Joker early gangster days, Killer-Croc-is-beautiful was a WTF moment, Katana was late, and lastly Slipknot, which we should not bother knowing.
 |
fantastic cosplaying |
Harley Quinn stands out because of Margot Robbie's womanly charms but the acting was subpar at best
. Her iconic, endearment of "Mistah
J" was removed, favoring
her unripe calling of "Puddin
". The group's founder Amanda Waller lacks badassery
, in the canon this woman antagonizes
Batman himself! With her strong disposition but instead Viola Davis conveyed a forgettable sympathetic founder.

coz Im Will Smith mothafka |
Deadwhat wrong eyes
Deadshot's uses his right eye for scoping, while in this movie, Will Smith has it on the left! Like a typo this maybe a forgivable if the actor is a lefty but he is not! This absolute clusterF of a mistake was evident how lax this Warner Bros. adaptation with poor character specs. Ok sure let us forgive that a Black actor took over the role for diversity's sake, but the Deadshot we knew in the Batman Universe was not there. The lethality of this dark knight adversary was humanized by burdening him with fatherly duties which we watched Will Smith portrayed countless times in his previous movies.

somebody stop Meh |
Jared Leto's Joker was laughable
Oscar winner, Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman, Suicide Squad Hype Master Jared Leto, was a vanishing bubble that delivered a terrible joke. Maybe its just me but, Mark Hamill's performance became the standard of the infamous Joker's laugh adapted by fellow voice-actor Troy Baker on animated movies and videogames. Compared to them, Jared Leto's version was a dreadful choked-squeaking gasping for a giggle. His performance did not have identity, eclipsed by Heath Ledger's iconic take in The Dark Knight trilogy. Jared Leto looked like he was experimenting in different ways to deliver his lines but somehow did not end up in the final cut.

Villains in their best Hero efforts |
Director David Ayer is not comic compatible
I'm sure many fans were excited at first given Suicide Squad Director David Ayer credits includes Training Day and Fury. He wrote Denzel Washington's award winning "Training Day" and Antoine Fuqua directed its Oscar worthiness. Ayer's direction of Brad Pitt's "Fury" was well done credited as the Director and Writer same with Suicide Squad. But he is not compatible for comic book adaptation, Suicide Squad lacks the cohesion to make a solid story and mistakes like Deadshot's , suffered despite having a solid source material.

Bald was the head Axeman |
The Executives of Marvel/Disney must be laughing hysterically, one rolling on the floor and the other one in tears while watching the Suicide Squad. Or perhaps the rumored Warner Bros. intervention, became the final nail in the coffin that resulted in this compound mess just like Marvel's reboot of The Fantastic Four.

from Suicide Squad to Fans |
Recommendation
If you are not a comic book reader, you will like it for its special effects and action, that's it. For fans of DC universe, you will be wheezing "Huh?", "Wait, what?", "How the?" and cringe on the one-liners all throughout, guaranteed. But don't fret, there is already an excellent film to make up for this, the animated movie "Batman: Assault on Arkham", this Suicide Squad story compared to the film, is vastly superior in all aspects.
