Why Assassin's Creed III Remastered was a bad remaster? Review Score 4/10

1700s the American revolution, experience the journey of Ratohnhakéton a.k.a. Connor in Assassin's Creed III Remastered, with enhanced graphics and improved gameplay mechanics. And "Liberation" as the Assassin's Creed's first female assassin Aveline de Grandpré. After completing the Connor's main story, our review score is 4/10, here's why.

Ubisoft has been extremely generous during the tragic accident on Notre Dame de Paris and releasing Assassin's Creed Unity FREE for all PC gamers. But as a gamer who love the original Assassin's Creed III, Assassin's Creed Liberation and Tyranny of King Washington DLC, these are honest feedbacks from a gamer's perspective.

When you buy a remastered edition nowadays, they are basically just HD textures with very minimal tweaks but from AC3 launch trailer, we should have higher expectations on AC3 than a typical remastered edition.

Gameplay is wonky

The camera auto-center while moving is exhausting, chase scenes is a terrible experience. Running or landing to small tree stump from the ground has auto jump off, trying to climb up from that stump can feel like your controller has malfunctioned. Unlike the newer Assassin's Creed games, they could have at least improve AC3:R by adding climbable areas, at the moment you need to go around a huge rock formation to find and climb the cracks. The horse movement is worse than Origins, and spur  mechanic has long cooldown that can drive you impatient. Adding auto-path could have been a remastered improvement.

The horse can jump over a fence but blocked by a 4-inch wood plank. And refuses to jump a half-meter cliff. Riding a horse that stops every few seconds is not fun. This by far the WORST experience which also been the problem with the original game. Trees have huge hitboxes, we can't pass through the leaves, and trees are placed so close together for the tree-run gameplay above.

Looting is too old school, it is time consuming, auto-loot could have been nice. At least get some of the newer gameplay in Origins as improvements. Audio is out of sync, it is almost funny watching the cutscenes. The music has issues with updated sound driver but turning off the music means cinematics is on mute. The UI is too visible, no auto hide for the health bars/weapons etc when not in combat like the last Assassin's Creed games . The UI also doesn't scale down when played on higher resolution.

Credits - Unskippable

You have to sit and watch the credits for roughly 10 minutes, it is unskippable at the moment, you can't exit the game either, the menu does not show up. So you need to end the game via task manager on PC. Some players claim it is skippable but in our experience it is not.

Needs Photomode Bad

What is the point of HD textures, 4K optimizations, lighting and all that shinies if we can't take a souvenir. Players needs some in-game creativity too. Photo-mode also paves the way to more buzz for the game among the player base. This may be a free game from Assassin's Creed Odyssey gold edition but it is being sold as a separate game from previous AC3 owners for a hefty $40.

Conclusion

AC3:R is far from a polished game, I would not recommend it to new Assassin's Creed players, but if they have the original, play that instead, some textures in the original are even better. Playing Assassin's Creed Liberation or continuing the game now may feel like a chore, it is frustrating. This is more like Assassin's Creed III HD, not worthy to be called Remastered. These are just our personal opinions based on our experience, if you don't mind the inconveniences mentioned above, go buy it.
