Why "The Dark Tower" already have 10K Dislikes in just 19 hours?
Despite being viewed by 7 million people, this Stephen King movie adaptation has already received 10 thousand dislikes mostly coming from the fans of the books.
The movie is being headlined by BAFTA & Golden Globe nominated Idris Elba and Academy awardee Matthew McConaughey. The premise of the movie will be based on the three books of the series, "The Gunslinger", "The Waste Lands" and the "The Wind Through the Keyhole". The fans have a lot to complain about.
The Dark Tower is considered as Stephen King's masterpiece among his bestselling work and the series somewhat bind his other novels in a connected world. Most hardcore fans are comparing it to the likes of Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. The author's magnum opus could have been adapted in numerous movies but sadly it's looking like The Dark Tower is just getting one.
Hollywood is notorious for changing characters and plot of book adaptations. They are also known for expanding one book into trilogy and casting actors that are significantly different from the characters physical attributes and ethnicity. Like Scarlet Johansson's in "Ghost in The Shell" and this adaptation is no different.
One of its titular character Roland Deschain, the gunslinger is known in the books as a Clint Eastwood revolver-wielding Western marksman. In the movie, he will be portrayed by Heimdall himself Idris Elba. "Ghost in the Shell" and "Dr. Strange" were accused of "white-washing" favoring Caucasian actors to play Asian characters, this movie may be the opposite.
The fans of the book have rallied and shown their disapproval with 10k worth of dislikes despite being published less than a day. But many also love the action-packed trailer and excited to see the film despite the differences from the book. Although one might cringe from the trailer's last scene, a no-look gunshot with the line "I do not kill with my gun, I kill with my heart.." that is chessy. Should we judge it by the trailer or wait and see? Watch the trailer below.
